Since yesterday ended with the discovery that one Jetboil has been left in the hotel, we split, yet again, into two groups. Vivien begged the receptionist on the phone, to kindly ask any of the departing guests heading in our direction today, if anyone would be willing to deliver the forgotten jetboil on the way. Together with Alexis, they stayed for a few hours, while the rest hit the road. Today we only have 12 km to go, so we down have to rush anywhere, and we are enjoying the views while taking a lot of photos. The surrounding landscape has changed a lot compared to the north of the island. We are now surrounded by lakes, green hills, and here and there a pile of snow
We are also walking uphill, for the most part, which is another significant change from the north, which was as flat as a pancake. Arys is wearing flip-flops all day again, and we even meet another madman wearing the same shoes, so the boys enthusiastically take a few pictures together. We stop for lunch about 4 km before the finish line, because we found a beautiful spot and simply want to stick around for a while. Towards the end of the day, we cross many snowy plains, a rather unusual experience at the end of summer. We arrive at about 4 in the afternoon and go straight to building our tents. Shortly after, we are joined by Vivien and Alexis, who completed today’s route in 2.5 hours, and I bet that they still managed to do at least 200 push-ups with their backpacks on, along the way… Unfortunately, no luck, no Jetboil.
Today’s hike did not tire anyone, so everyone (except me) decided to go for a small hike to the nearest hill to admire the landscape. I guard the camp, and write the diary responsibly. After the others return, we start preparing dinner. If I wasn’t hungry, no one would get me out of the tent. It’s definitely below zero today, we’re pretty high up, and there’s snow all around. There is no shower, so we immediately crawl back into our warm sleeping bags and go to bed.
