Day 2 – Remember gravity

It hurt. You ask what ? Absolutely everything.

Our breakfast oatmeal marathon starts today. We bought about 10 different flavors hoping we won’t get sick of it. Arys isn’t exactly a fan, but with a bit of effort, he manages to get it done. Just in case we didn’t eat enough carbs, we throw in a few handfuls of sugar coated peanuts, and we’re on our way.

The plan is 30 km. You can only guess once if we succeeded or not. We barely managed 20, and nearly lost 2 team members who looked like they were going to drop from exhaustion. We probably have blisters even behind our ears, and everything you can think of hurts. Mainly it’s the back and legs. Let me tell you, 23 kg really feels heavy. Others are very supportive, and try to take the weight of those who can’t cope. (It won’t turn out well, but more on that tomorrow.)

The only positive thing about today is that we have finally left the cursed asphalt road and are now trudging along a stony trail. We really do feel the difference. Today gets additional plus points for a lunch break, which will become rather rare later.

Around 7:30 p.m., it’s already clear that we won’t be able to continue any further today, so we start looking for a place to sleep. We ended up building the camp by the river, unfortunately right next to the road, as the plots around here are fenced. Before dinner, we jump in the river for a quick refresh of both our body and mind, and finish the day with a hot meal.

We are going to bed early, not sure this will change for the rest of the trip.

Good night.
