In the morning, after adding water on top of everything, our idea of a 20 kg backpack went down like a house of cards. My backpack is 23 kg, and it’s not even the heaviest. In the beginning, we really don’t feel well, but gradually our backs get used to the weight. Today we only planned a warm-up of 20 km, but we soon find out that with such a weight on our backs, this is almost our limit.
Unfortunately, we also have to walk on an asphalt road for the first 2 days, which destroys our feet, so the first blisters and sore ankles soon appear. We stop a few times for photos, videos, a quick snack, but we don’t take a big break until lunch. Like most of the following days, we have dried meat, meat bars, cheese, nuts and dried fruit for lunch. We still have 8 km to go, so we start walking again. Arys starts to suffer first, his shoulders, back and even hips are bruised from the backpack.
Fortunately, the weather is beautiful, we even walk in shorts for a while. Around 5 o’clock we arrive at the place where we should sleep. We found a glade above the river, so after setting up camp we head out for a bath. Only three brave ones – Vivien, FX and Alexis plunged into the river head to toe. The rest of us just had a light shower and washed our clothes. Fresh and clean again, we start preparing dinner while enjoying beautiful views of the sunset.
We’re all super tired today, so we’re falling asleep early.
