Day 14 – Cookies are the new gold

We are starting to miss the northern part of Iceland. There are too many people in the south for our liking, who pitch their tents too close to ours, and wake us up too loud and too early in the morning. We all woke up about an hour before the scheduled alarm clock, sleep deprived and sluggish. Almost 3 hours passed before we finished breakfast and packed up. That’s probably our record so far. Perhaps the fact that none of us can stand the smell of oatmeal anymore is a little to blame. Finishing a bowl is becoming hard.

Today we have 16 km ahead of us. After the first 4 or so, we lose Arys, who fearlessly goes out to buy cookies to make tomorrow’s morning more pleasant. The route is again like a roller coaster, but it completely straightens out in the last 10 km and stretches endlessly. We are all starving, but we decided to have lunch at the camp. We don’t see Arys for the rest of the way, but there are a lot of other people around and it annoys us a lot, especially when you need to do your private business. The last 5 km feel like 50 because we are blinded by hunger. In the end, however, a camp that was hiding behind the hill until the last moment, peaks out. It’s really strange how many Czech and French people you meet all over the world. Iceland is no exception. We have dried meat for lunch after setting up the tents, and Arys joins us after about 50 minutes. With his cookies.

We pay for the shower again, unfortunately today it lacks a temperature control wheel. Ouch. Vivien got a bit carried away while talking trash about Czech cuisine in front of the rest of the party, so he gave me 3 snickers as an apology. Must have cost an arm and a leg. After dinner, we wanted to relax and enjoy a beer, but the cottage is already closed, so we get ready for bed. I am trying to learn 3 French words that sound exactly the same, during which everyone else is shamelessly having too much fun. Although we fall asleep with the fact that I finally successfully pronounced all 3, it happened by accident, and I still don’t know which is which.
